Haylani Kuruppu was crowned the new Miss Samoa 2022 over the weekend, and there is now talk of organising the Miss Pacific pageant which the Samoan Government originally initiated.
However Samoa Tourism Authority (STA) events coordinator Kristian Scalan said there is no confirmation on the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant yet.
“We will hopefully have this confirmed over the next two weeks with the Miss Pacific Islands Board of Directors,” Mr Scalan said.
The 24-year-old from Melbourne in Australia, won the Puletasi Award, Miss Photogenic and Best Talent Award, beating seven other contestants.
Former Miss Samoa and reigning Miss Pacific Islands Fonoifafo Mcfarland wished the newly crowned Ms Kuruppu all the best in her new journey.
“I hope your journey will be filled with just that – memories, laughter and lessons,” she wrote on Facebook as she congratulated Ms Kuruppu.
“May you continue to uphold the same legacy that has come from all previous holders of this title and continue to use your reign to serve our people with dignity, passion and love.”
The first runner up was Miss Samoa NZ, second runner up Miss Princess Mariana publishing, third runner up Miss Samoa Victoria and fourth runner up was Miss SABB.
Miss Samoa Victoria won the floral float parade, best inspired traditional attire, best sarong and Vodafone people’s choice award.
Miss Samoa Performing Arts took Miss personality, Miss Samoa NZ got the national tourism award and best interview, and Miss SSAB walked away with the Miss internet award.
Ms Kuruppu will be employed by the STA and will become a tourism ambassador for Samoa for marketing and promotions.
