Pacific Islands’ tallest building rises

It was dubbed as the tallest building in any Pacific island nation. At 28 storeys, the WG Friendship Plaza will have residential areas for strata title sales, a hotel that will be managed by Wyndham Hotels, office spaces and shops.

Work on the building started in 2016 and was due to be completed in 2021 however as a result of the pandemic there was a significant shortage in materials and in specialised labour to complete the work.

As of now construction is continuing and the building is finally taking shape. Developers have forecast that it will be completed in 2023.

Wyndham Hotels have signed a deal with WG International Real Estate Co. Limited, the developer of WG Friendship Plaza to manage the hotel which will be from levels 19 to 25.

These rooms would be privy to some of the most fantastic views of Suva.

It is understood that Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Head of Development- South East Asia & Pacific Rim, Matt Holmes and WG International Real Estate director Ron Ding penned the private deal in late 2019.

WG International Real Estate representative Julian Yuen said while the hotel will go up to level 25, level 26 and 27 would be where its state of the art conference facilities will be.

“Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, will not only manage the property, but it has also acquired expert interior designers to create an airy, approachable experience for guests,” Mr Yuen said.

According to the developers, the interiors will have a balance of nature and structure with expanded natural light, a focus on texture, naturally inspired materials and wood-look accents.

In the hotel circulation area it transitions as the journey to the guest room is composed with soft curves which is an elegant lift carriage that features a commissioned artwork of Fijian motif patterns.

There is also a subtle Fijian influence which is suggested by the planned wall scones and the carpet pattern.

Wow, this is awesome. The first time I came to fiji at suva Town was in 2019. I traveled from Nadi to Suva 8am in the morning. When I’m reached lami that was the first time I ever see this type of tallest building compared to my country Solomons island. I’d lived in Suva until now 2022 and almost time I always thought in my mind about this building when it would have completed because its very outstanding. Every time I’m going pass in the bus from USP to Suva Town, this building attracts my attention. This is awesome for Fiji 🇫🇯. I hope in near future I will be back here in fiji to visit this tallest building😊
