Fiji tourism ambassador announces same-sex relationship

Fiji’s former tourism ambassador and Australian actress Rebel Wilson has just come out on Instagram with pictures of her new girlfriend.

She has posted: “I thought I was searching for a Disney prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess.”

Her new romantic interest is Ramona Agruma, founder of the sustainable loungewear brand Lemon Ve Limon.

In December 2021, Wilson featured in campaigns for Tourism Fiji with the concept ‘Open for Happiness.’

While Wilson is a well known Hollywood actress, many Fijians did not take too well with Wilson being the face of Tourism Fiji.

This led to Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Brent Hill explaining that Wilson was not the face but an ambassador for the Tourism Fiji brand.

He had told Luxury Australian Travel and Trade E-News (LATTE), the campaign would run through to mid-2022, and suggested Wilson could likely star in additional messaging for Tourism Fiji.

When contacted on Wilson’s status as ambassador, Mr Hill said their contract had finished.

He said on a personal note that he had seen the post by Wilson and she looked happy and healthy. He said he wished her all the best in the future.

This is the first time Wilson has confirmed her relationship with Agruma, but she has not been discreet about it.

In March, Wilson and Agruma appeared at the Vanity Fair Oscars party together.

Agruma has appeared frequently on Wilson’s Instagram in the past few months.

According to these posts, it appears that the duo celebrated Valentine’s Day together, Wilson’s birthday in March, and the success of her Netflix movie Senior Year in May.

Fiji is a Christian country. The Melanesian Fijians put Almighty God first before all else. But to learn that the Ambassador of Tourism for Fiji is someone who engages is same-sex relationships is a bit hard to swallow. It would be interesting to know the position of the Methodist Church on this matter.

It would be suitable for an ambassador for Tourism Fiji to have frequent Fiji in their holiday travels over the past decade.
This selection is one-sided as is promoting a personal preference of a person to that of a nation. Can’t see the relevance there. Is this about Fiji or about the ambassador?
Never heard of the selected ambassador choosing Fiji as her frequent holiday destination in the past.
We are known for who we are – the bula spirit in the people.
Returnees come back every year to Fiji because of the people and their safety and of course the beautiful places to stay at and or visit.
(Keeping in mind the aggressive marketing from other nation’s Tourism on this recovery road.)
The change would be to select from within Tourism Industry in Fiji , a more suitable nominee for that position ,who is Fiji and will market Fiji. I have a list of names if needed.
